Back Yard Update; Outdoor Living Space Decor

I am so excited!  Hubs and I decided to update our pool area and add a patio and we are almost done!  This wasn’t a DIY project, except when it comes to decor and furniture.  The budget for the actual renovation ended up going over a bit so the decor and furniture budget got a bit smaller.  No problem! If there is one thing I am good at, it’s finding deals on stuff I want!  Check out what we have purchased so far to make our pool area inviting and an extra living space, just outdoors.

Backyard Update

We added a concrete space to make the pool deck and living space bigger.  A wall was added, as well, to hide a dirt/rock area and add a place for drinks and even seating.  The pool pump was hidden by a tall wall and the last step was to redo the deck.  After much debate, we picked the color ‘suede’ and had a ‘flagstone’ pattern done.  The budget didn’t allow for pool repairs; we’ll need to fix the tiles at a later date and get the pool light working (it’s not just a new bulb, a whole new instillation is needed).  I think we may attempt a DIY pool tile fix.  We shall see! Basically, the actual pool was ignored (other than having it drained and cleaned).

patiogazebo

The main goal was to add space AND get some shade.  So a gazebo was a must.  The grand plan was having a custom gazebo for space.  It is a weird shape so a custom one would be idea to get more shade.  Of course, that wasn’t in the cards, the budget just didn’t allow for it.  We got a great, highly rated, budget friendly gazebo online.

patiofire

I have been wanting a fire pit for a while now.  I have visions of s’mores with the kids and curling up next to my husband.  The fire pit was actually one of the first purchases I made once we started this process.  It was less than $60 and a good size for occasional use.

What are some must have items for your outdoor space? Tell me below and be sure to check back for the big reveal and part 2 of this backyard update!

Top 6 DVDs On A Loop In Our Home

Top 6 Movies for Kids

This post may contain affiliate links.

If your kids are anything like mine they have their favorite movies and they play them on a loop.  Over and over. And over.  We have about 6 regulars at the moment.  Of course, we try to limit screen time but when it’s movie time they seem to pick the same ones… Here’s what’s playing in our home this month.

1.  It’s no surprise. Disney’s Frozen has been the #1 played movie in our home since it came out on DVD.

2.  Megamind is an old favorite over here and the kids still request it regularly.

3. Disney/Pixar A Bugs Life is one I wasn’t sure if they’d like. They not only like it but one has decided he now wants a Bug themed birthday party!

4.  Monster House isn’t just for Halloween!  This one is fairly new on our rotation but has been playing non-stop for the last week.  My youngest LOVES it.  He was devastated when it broke this morning.

5.  Apparently they like monsters because Disney’s Monsters University seems to be always on…. at least it’s one I happily watch with them.

6. You thought Tangled was a ‘princess’ movie for little girls?  No way!  My three boys giggle continuously when watching this one!

What movies are your kiddos loving right now?  Leave a comment and let me know;maybe I can share some new movies with them and change things up a bit!

Disney Jr. Henry Hugglemonster DVD Review (and Giveaway!)

Do your kiddos love Disney Jr. as much as mine?  Henry Hugglemonster is fairly new to the line-up and my three youngest all really enjoy it (my 12 year old doesn’t find it ‘annoying’ either, so that’s a huge plus!).  Henry Hugglemonster: Meet the Hugglemonsters is the first movie starring this fun family and it includes 6 episodes plus bonus features, too!

Welcome to the newest, happiest, most monster-rific spot on the map – the wondrous land of Roarsville – where five-year old Henry Hugglemonster lives, plays and learns something “roarsome” every day. Together with his loving parents and grandparents, big brother Cobby, sister Summer, baby bro Ivor, and a town full of cuddly monsters, Henry embraces all the joys and challenges of growing up. Whether he’s helping his sister put on a show, setting up a hugglejuice stand or entering his monsterdog Beckett in a pet pageant, he’s always discovering new ways to be the best brother, friend and monster he can be! Packed with over two hours of song-filled fun, teamwork and adventure, Henry Hugglemonster: Meet The Hugglemonsters will make your preschooler roar for more every time.

DIY Baby Wipes

I started making a new batch of baby wipes and mid way through I thought “Hey, people might be interested in this”.  So here’s my quick run down of my DIY Baby Wipes.  I’ve done this in the past, although I do not exclusively use do it yourself wipes.  I already have everything on hand so I do it when there are no good deals on wipes or I’m in a bind.

I use Viva paper towel brand.  I know others swear by different brands so you may have to try a few to find what you like best.  I like Viva because it’s cloth like and holds up really well.

You will need:
Water
1 tsp baby oil
1 tsp baby wash/baby soap
Tea Tree Oil (a few drops will do)
Air tight container

I boil 2 cups of water and let cool.  I cut my paper towel into thirds. Use a sharp knife but not serrated.  Learn from my mistakes!  A serrated knife will make you end up with little fuzzies in your wipes. I started cutting it into thirds because I didn’t have a container big enough for a half of the paper towel.  I keep doing it because I think 1/3 is big enough for me and comparable to the size of a commercial wipe.  Pour 1 cup of the cooled water into your container.

Add baby oil and baby wash and tea tree oil.  I have tried with without the tea tree oil but it molds so I highly recommend the tea tree oil.  You only use a few drops and it’ll last you a long time.   Place your paper towel in the mixture and cover.  Shake it around a bit, turn it upside down to get the paper towel evenly damp/wet.  Remove the cardboard tube in the center of the towels and pull the DIY wipes up from the center.  That’s it!
